A Butterfly Roof and One Unique New Project

Typically, we remodel a home or build a new one. When our clients said none of the above, our interest was peaked. They wanted to build a completely new home unit, but connect it via a hallway to their current home. That way they would have the option in the future to remodel their current home, leave it as is, or even demolish it while continuing to live in the beautiful brand new unit. It was an interesting idea, and Timeline was ready to deliver.

Wanting to take this opportunity to give the clients a unique architectural element, our team designed the new home unit with a butterfly roof. As the name implies, the shape of the roof is like that of a butterfly with the roof in two sections, both facing upwards. As you can see from the photo, it adds character and distinction to the exterior look and feel, really making the project stand out.

Besides the unique look, there were a few other goals surrounding this project: Take in as much of the panoramic views offered in this region, and build a new home that can be lived in by itself if the current property is removed one day.
The current home is tucked away high up in the hills, sitting on the edge of a canyon with spectacular views. Originally built as a log cabin with no insulation, the home has a second story added on which adds to its unique architectural look. With plenty of rooms and square footage, the original home can be utilized as guest bedrooms when their grown children visit, as a craft room, etc.

Current design for this project includes about 1,200 square feet of living space with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and an open concept kitchen connected to the family and dining areas. To take in the views, a large wrap around patio has also been added to the design. Since this property sits on the edge of a canyon, added structural support will be carefully put in place.
