Matthew is President of Timeline Design which he founded in 1990 with the mission of constructing high-quailty custom homes and remodels on time and on budget. This philosophy lives on today with hundreds of past satisfied clients who experienced the Timeline Methodology of Project Management.

Matthew started his career when he was just 14-years-old building cabinets for customers in his parents’ garage. Thirty-five years later, Matthew’s passion for building excellence is alive and well. Matthew, who studied civil engineering at Santa Clara University and Electrical Engineering at UC San Diego, has completed over 700 residential projects. He is a Certified Interior Designer and a California licensed General Building Contractor.

Matthew’s education in electrical and civil engineering is evident in the detailed specifications and analyses that Timeline provides its clients and the strict adherence to project schedules and standard operating procedures.

In addition to building custom homes and remodels, Matthew consults with homeowners and realtors providing feasibility studies to their clients prior to the purchase of homes and land. Putting his decades of experience at your disposal before you acquire a home or lot can save you from making costly errors in the purchase of your next home.

A true testament to Matthew’s business model is that 90% of his new clients are referred by past clients. He has a winning combination of talent, integrity, and business savvy enabling him to provide the highest level of quality and service.

Matthew is former president of the San Jose Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and current board member for the Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) Silicon Valley.

When not at work, you can find Matthew coaching at the Saratoga Little League field, AYSO soccer field or building his three ministries which include a Men’s Ministry, a Business Prayer Group, and a Business Owner’s strategic planning group. Matthew is also an avid surfer and sailor. Matthew and his wife, Theresa, live in Monte Sereno with their four children.

The Business of Design-Build

Timeline Design can do both the design and construction of your home. This includes the high-level design, city research, structural engineering, architecture, interior design, construction documents/permits, demo/site prep, construction, and warranty.
Advantages for you …

  • There is one point of accountability for your project during design and construction. After completion, there is also just one point of accountability for warranty and support.

  • The entire company’s expertise is available to help create the best solutions for your home. For example, our construction project managers review the designs to look for build-time issues.

  • Construction goes more quickly due to a consistent design-build process, a tighter integration between the teams, and the ability to solve issues quickly with in-house staff.

  • With the estimation department’s help, you can revise your high-level design in the Feasibility phase to meet your budget, making it far less likely you’ll need a complete redesign and rebid.

Getting Started

In our experience, it is helpful to have a two-meeting introduction. The first meeting is held at the Timeline Design office. The second meeting is at your home.
In the first meeting, you’ll …

  • Learn about the Timeline Design Process and what makes us different,

  • Take home a binder filled with useful information about design and construction.

At the second Meeting at your project site or home, we’ll …

  • Learn about what you’d like to accomplish and how you use your spaces,

  • Brainstorm ideas together and do some sketches,

  • Talk about a budget range.

If you elect to move forward with us, we will give you some references to visit so you can talk to our past clients and see the quality of our work.
Once you have decided to work with us, we will give you a Design Program summarizing the changes you’d like to make and together sign a Design Agreement to get your project kicked off.
Because of our great team and well-honed process, after the design has been completed, we’ve finished high-end kitchens in just eight weeks and built large-scale custom homes in only 12 months. What can we do for you?
