A Better Way to Insulate Your Roof

1 Money Saving Tip Builders Might Not Mention

You may know all about the different types of insulation, but did you ever consider where exactly is the best place to install it? If you are like me, you would think this is fairly obvious: walls, roof, under floor. What you might not know is that there are two places you can insulate in the roof area. The bottom of the attic floor, and right up against the inside of the roof.

Many builders will install the insulation on the bottom of the attic floor, it’s easier to do and, to be fair, many may not have considered putting it in up against the inside of the roof. Why would you want that?

Benefits include:

  • No attic vents for rats to get in
  • Your attic will be climate conditioned and an area you can then utilize more
  • Saves money on your gas/electric bill since your home is more efficiently climate controlled (it retains more heat in the winter and less in the summer)
  • Typically costs you $0 more to have it installed there vs. the attic floor
  • Less buckling/warping of your hardwood floor since you’ve lessened the swing in temperature of your home

At Timeline, insulating the inside of the roof is common practice, along with many other expert decisions to give you the best built home possible. If you, or someone you know, is in need of our services, please let us know.
