Contemporary Design In A Ranch Style Neighborhood

temp-post-image
Did you know that the style of your home is taken into consideration for city approval? It’s true. The design-review process by the city planning commission will take a look, and if they feel the style of your home will not blend well with the neighborhood you’re in, they can reject your plans. This is one of many reasons why it’s so important to work with a great design-build team.

We recently ran into this exact situation with our client’s project in Santa Clara. Now empty nesters, our clients are very excited to downsize from their larger Cupertino home to their smaller Santa Clara home. Although they are are big fans of contemporary design, this would stand out in their Santa Clara prairie-ranch style neighborhood. So, our architects used transitional elements such as a hip roof, (the same roof shape as the ranch style homes in the neighborhood) but updated the look by using metal material and clean contemporary lines. Another way they integrated their design into the rancher style neighborhood was by keeping the entry courtyard, and more importantly, our clients’ beloved kumquat tree.

The interior of the home will have a very contemporary look with high vaulted ceilings, transom windows, an open concept living space and smart home technology.

At Timeline, fitting your style into your neighborhood's look and feel are just one of many things we take into account when designing your home. If you or someone you know is in need of our design and construction services, email us today at info@tldesign.net.
